The Temirtau City Museum opened the exhibition "Television – KVN-49" as part of the "Exhibit of the Month" project on November 12, 2025.
Our museum's collection includes a representative of the very first Soviet mass-produced television model, the KVN-49.
The KVN-49 is more than just a device; it is a true icon of the post-war Soviet era and the first mass-produced television in the USSR. Its introduction in 1949 marked the beginning of the television era for millions of Soviet families. The black-and-white television in the museum's collection is marked KVN-49 and was manufactured in 1958.
The KVN-49 was popular among Soviet citizens. Production volume increased from 12,000 units in 1950 to 1.7 million in 1960. It could rightfully be called the "people's television." It weighed 29 kg. The television is part of a museum collection reflecting everyday life during the Soviet period. It was donated by residents of Temirtau city.
